I have a new story out with Flame Tree Press!
My story ‘Dissolution of the Self on the Altar of Your Dreams: a Case Study’ is part of the Beyond & Within anthology ‘This Way Lies Madness’.
This story is closely linked to my scientific work and asks “but what if it went horribly wrong?” It’s a question I’ve heard many a PhD student ask themselves, as there is a particular anxiety to working so hard to push at the borders of human knowledge, not knowing if it will make a difference. If it will be enough. So if this story speaks to anything, it speaks, perhaps, to that impostor syndrome that many early stage scientists experience. And given the Mad Scientist trope, I think this story is especially at home in a horror anthology that aims to subvert some of the tired tropes around mental health within the genre.
For those worried about my own mental health: I’m well, things did not go horribly wrong. But it’s fun to speculate sometimes, isn’t it?
A few words of mine are also available at the publishers blog (link).
